Wherever in the Middle East you are headed

Hajj, Umrah, and Gulf travel call for different plans

Hajj and UmrahMeningococcal vaccination is closely associated with Hajj and Umrah travel. Entry and documentation requirements can apply for pilgrims, and your pharmacist confirms what your specific trip needs and helps you plan around it.
Gulf city tripsDubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha, Riyadh, and other Gulf cities are common for business and leisure travel. Hepatitis A and routine boosters are the usual starting point for these visits.
The LevantJordan, Lebanon, and neighboring countries bring their own questions. Hepatitis A, routine boosters, and travelers' diarrhea planning come up most often for these routes.
Visiting family abroadTravelers staying with relatives are often at higher exposure than tourists in hotels, so hepatitis A and routine vaccines get a closer look at the visit.
Somewhere else in the Middle East? These are common routes, not the full list. Every visit starts from your actual itinerary, wherever in the Middle East it goes.

What we go through for most Middle East trips

Hajj and Umrah

Meningococcal, MenACWY

Meningococcal vaccination is associated with Hajj and Umrah travel. Entry and documentation requirements can apply, and your pharmacist confirms what your trip needs at the visit.

Who it is for
Hajj and Umrah travelers most often, confirmed at the visit for your specific trip.
When to get it
Plan at least 10 days before you travel. Having documentation ready ahead of time helps avoid questions about your dose and date.
You leave with
Documentation of the dose and date, in the form many pilgrims are asked to present.

Hepatitis A

One of the most frequently recommended vaccines for Middle East trips, especially with local food, markets, or visits with family.

Who it is for
Most travelers to the region, and especially those visiting relatives, staying with local families, or eating outside hotels and restaurants.
When to get it
Start as early as you can. It is given as a series, and the later dose is what gives you longer lasting coverage.

Routine vaccines and boosters

Travel is often the moment a routine vaccine turns out to have lapsed. We check and catch you up at the same visit.

What we cover
Tdap, MMR, polio boosters for certain itineraries, seasonal flu, and other catch up vaccines.
At the visit
Your pharmacist reviews your record and brings anything current before you travel.

Travelers' diarrhea planning

One of the most requested items before a Middle East trip, especially longer stays or family visits.

What it is
A plan for handling stomach trouble if it starts on your trip, worked out with your pharmacist before you fly.
At the visit
Your pharmacist reviews your health history and route and walks through what to do if symptoms come up on the road.

Timing matters more than most travelers expect

Give your trip the head start it needs

Several travel vaccines need a head start before you fly, and meningococcal vaccination for Hajj and Umrah travel is best planned at least 10 days ahead. Hepatitis A is given as a series, so booking early gives you the most options. Flying sooner than that? A visit is still worth it. Even on a short timeline there is almost always something useful we can do, and you leave with clear guidance for the road.

  1. Tell us about your trip. A short form, about a minute from your phone.
  2. Pick a preferred time. We hold it for you and a pharmacist calls to confirm. Appointments usually available the same week.
  3. Come in once. Your vaccines and travel advice in one visit. Walk out ready to go.

Questions travelers ask

Middle East trip FAQ

Is meningococcal vaccination required for Hajj or Umrah?

Entry and documentation requirements can apply for Hajj and Umrah travel, and meningococcal vaccination is closely associated with this trip. Your pharmacist confirms what your specific trip needs at the visit.

Do I need a yellow fever vaccine for a Middle East trip?

Not usually. Yellow fever is more often discussed for parts of Africa and tropical South America. If your route connects through one of those regions first, your pharmacist reviews whether it applies to your trip. Riley's is an authorized yellow fever vaccination center, so your ICVP yellow card is issued and stamped right here if you need one.

How early should I book before flying?

A few weeks out gives you the most room, since hepatitis A is given as a series and meningococcal vaccination for pilgrims is best planned at least 10 days ahead. Appointments are usually available the same week if that is not possible.

I fly in two weeks. Is it too late to come in?

No, come in as soon as you can. There is almost always something useful we can do, even on a short timeline, and your pharmacist will walk through what your trip calls for.

Can you see kids before a trip to the Middle East?

We are currently accepting children 12 years and older. Your pharmacist reviews age and health history to confirm what fits your child's trip.

What about travelers' diarrhea on a Middle East trip?

Stomach trouble is a common concern for Middle East trips. Your pharmacist walks through food and water precautions for your route at the visit and what to do if symptoms come up on the road.

What does the visit cost, and is it covered by insurance?

The standard consult is $49, or $59 for an express visit seen within 2 business days. A companion traveling to the same destination is $25. Vaccine coverage varies by plan and patient, so ask us for details. The consult is a separate charge. The fee is refundable with at least 24 hours notice; appointments booked within 24 hours of the visit time are not refundable.
